Hello!

My daughter is restoring a Schwinn L'il Tiger bike, vintage 1970. The bike is in good shape except for the wheel "treads" are split. I'm looking for new or used wheels...and training wheels. She would like to give the bike to her nephew for Christmas.

Any help or reference would be appreciated!

I too am restoring a Lil Tiger for my son- he's almost 4-months-old so I have some time.

You can find tires on ebay all day long. If they aren't on there let me know and I'll get the name and number of the guy who sold me mine. He usually has two versions- mint (about $25 I think) and close but not perfect (around $18).

As far as training wheels I hope you're ready to pay big money. NOS sets can run upwards of $250. Used models generally can be had for $50-$75 ish, sometimes more. The other thing to watch out for with regard to the training wheels is getting the "correct" set. They are the Schwinn "12". Unless you're planning on restoring and selling for profit (which doesn't sound like you are) I'd suggest getting a cheap pair of training wheels and using them. They bolt on no problem.

Good luck and keep me posted. If you need more info/help let me know.

Thanks so much for the info! I checked eBay the other day, and will do so again in case there are some now. If you don't mind, please send me contact info for the person who got you yours...sounds like he usually has some available. You can post here or email to davek355@yahoo.com.

Good advice about the training wheels. My wife and I had discussed and came to the same conclusion...get some generic ones!

I will send his info when I have a chance...I'm at work and the card is at home. I know there was a set on ebay yesterday...and they were his. Search Schwinn Lil and you should see them.
