General Cycling Discussion - Pulling a trailer with carbon fiber bike???

My fiance bought a Specialized Ruby this last winter and now is thinking she wants to pull a trailer with it for short tours and around town errands. She just got into cycling last year and I got her going on a decent entry level Schwinn. This winter she went wild with wanting to enter triathalons. I would have liked her to have gotten different frame material, but it is a great bike and she loves it. So.....is this a bike to put a BOB trailer on?? I'm uncertain...obviously. I've used a BOB for years and fully loaded, the tongue weight is only 15 pounds on the axle. She's thinking something that attaches to the seat post. I'm not sure that's feasible anyway given her height deficiency. I'm actually thinking no trailer at all on this frame, but again...uncertain.

Thoughts?? Open for suggestions!

Light trailer with light loads and mounted to the seat post--And only if the seat post is aluminium. I would still be worried about strain on the downtube though so I would have my doubts.

A Bob fastens via a rear QR so should be no issue at all. There are no unusual load placed on the frame. Certainly much less than putting the bike in a trainer.

There is absolutely no issue pulling that with a Ruby using an axle mount (quick release type). I haul all sorts of stuff around with my Roubaix.

How is a CF bike and a trailer a contradictory term? It could be silly to some but certainly not contradictory.

Yeah it is sort of funny, but she just doesn't have nor want to spend more money on another bike. This is just a matter of trying to be practical with what she has. That's how I got into the BOB in the first place too. My frame won't handle panniers so I opted for this. I LOVE IT!! I would like to try panniers, but again, the cost thing comes into play. My bike and my trailer are paid for!!

I'd get a cheap MTB for that chore.

I suggest a 2 wheel trailer, with an elastomer connection to the rear end .

I put a Rubbermaid bin in it.

I have a Carry-freedomCity, too, .. a sling bag for the load, inside the frame,
can be carried or worn like a messenger bag
off the bike, the trailer itself folds flat.

The Burly Travoy is a seat post mount, tows like a golf cart, directly behind the bike.

+1 on metal seat post for that ..

But I too suggest a different bike, as the lack of a kickstand
makes loading, and unloading the trailer a bit more of a chore.

Why was it again that companies build CF frames and components? I mean, there are other materials that have better features but CF has one quality going for it that made it worth the compromises, weight. This is like putting off road tires on a sports car; It would help tremendously on situations the entire car was not designed for.

At the end of the day if it makes her happy, that's the only thing that matters.

I actually thought about that. I mentioned to her yesterday about using her first Schwinn and upgrading the components on it.

Winter.....nature's way of telling us to "MODIFY!"
