I've seen quite a few 8.3 & 8.4's at the LBS around me. No 8.5's. Heard those are being held up for a while.

I put a deposit down on an 8.5 back in June. It was expected to be delivered on Aug 22.

This past Monday my LBS told me the delivery date had been delayed until Oct 2.

Then on Friday he called and said that it showed on his system that the bike was shipped from Trek two days earlier. If all goes well I should have my hands on my new 8.5 within the week, crossing my fingers.

Well at least now we know the exact date they will be out.....:( I think the deal is if you order one now it will be awhile before it shows up if they don't have any on order already! It's always the same with the new model year bikes, no one is ever sure when they will be in.

Think I'm going to put a 8.4 on order seems a little better than the 8.3. If anyone has a review for this on and off road please post

Not exactly correct! The DS series (all 4 models) are in stock at my local LBS in San Antonio.....leaning towards the 8.3

Yes, you very well may see all the models at your LBS but the 8.5's are few and far between.

The 8.2, 8.3, and 8.4 are widely available. There was only a small amount of early release 8.5's made available to some of their select dealers. Many shops don't have the 8.5's yet and there is some anecdotal evidence that the 8.5's won't be widely available until October.

Correct. That's why I pulled the plug on a 2011 Montare for $930 a few days ago. Took the discount and got pretty much the same bike.

I paid the same price for my 8.5 OTD with Shimano A530 pedals and Bontrager bar ends.

That bike is very special. How do you put air in the tyres...No valve stems.

It is the "Interchange Deluxe". It has the side compartments but not the expandable panniers.

Here's my Trek 8.3. I've flipped the stem and swapped out the suspension fork for a rigid Kona Project 2 one. Much lighter and quicker.

Very nice pictures everyone. Arcticbreeze does the rack and pack on the back of yours make a noticable difference in handling....i notice most everyone still has some sort of "knobbies"on thier DS's...any thoughts...

Nice bike GarthW. Did you reverse the stem to lower your bars? I am thinking of changing mine to dirt drops like this.
http://www.firstflightbikes.com/Lbar54.JPG

I ride paved trails and street about 70 percent of the time. I do use my bike off road during hunting season (mid September thru January 1st) I dont ride hard off road, it is more a method of transportation to some remote stands where no motorized vehicles are allowed. At that time I will be loaded down pretty heavy.

The tires are actually pretty smooth in the center with deeper tread on the outside edges. I tried to get a close up with my phone.

As far as handling I don't even know it is back there. However I have not loaded it real heavy yet but I suspect you won't even feel it.

Yep. I'm also thinking of going a little lower by moving one of my spacers over my stem. The more I ride, the more I'm thinking of adding a road bike to my 8.3. It's a really fun bike, but sometimes when I'm exclusively on roads, I'd like to go a little faster. Those dirt drops look neat.
