Hi! I am a USC student and I am from Atlanta. I have a Felt roadbike that I use for triathlons. I have my bike in Atlanta with me this summer, and it's about time for me to ship it back to school for the fall semester. It will end up costing me a load of money, cause I don't trust myself to pack it, and obviously I'm going to ensure it.

I figured I would post in case someone happens to be driving from the East Coast to the west coast sometime in the next few weeks. If you are, I'd be willing to pay you to bring my bike with you, and I could pick it up from you somewhere around LA. We could work out logistics if we get in contact.

I wish it didn't cost so much to ship bikes!!! If you have any other recommendations for me to lower the cost of shipping my bike, I would greatly appreciate them!

Ship it Amtrak. My daughter just shipped her bike from Seattle to Boston for $67. All you have to do is turn the handle bars (might need to lower them too), remove the pedals and roll it into a box, tape it up and you are good to go. I have sent several bikes up and down the east coast this way. You can purchase added insurance if you want more than whatever the basic coverage is.

Well you want to insure it to "ensure" it gets there safely. :)

FedEx won't be too awfully expensive. It should be in the neighborhood of $70-$80 from Atlanta to the coast. If you are afraid to pack it on your own then you could go to an LBS or REI. It will cost a bit more but everything will be taken care of for you.

You should have posted this a couple of months ago and I would have recommended just riding it there. :)
