Jeff Jones, editor of the Bike Radar website, did 305.513 miles (provisional) in the Breckland CC event.
Andy Wilkinson's 2009 record of 302.46 miles was also beaten by Andy Bason, with 302.75 miles, which must rank amongst the most frustrating long distance performances of all time. :crash:

Chapeaux to both

I'd like to average 25 mph for 1 hour.

According to the article at BikeRadar (see here (http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/bikeradar-editor-smashes-12-hour-time-trial-record-31324)) it was not only a UK record, but also a WORLD record. Incredible!

That is an insane combination of distance and speed... have done the 25mph for 1 hour but to do that for 12 is beyond the abilities of most riders on the planet.

Here a while back, it was posted about the guy breaking the 24 hour record, and it looked like that was set up to be the easiest possible course for the attempt. One of the impressive things here is that it wasn't set up specifically for him to break the record, but was "just another event" that he broke the record in doing.

Pretty sad day for me - I haven't been training the last few years - but I do a lot of long slow night rides on a fully loaded hybrid. I got out my 20 pound LeMond, no aero bars or discs and TTed as hard as I could on a easy -perfect stretch of asphalt. I clocked 21.3mph on 25 mile out and back, highest speed was 25.5 - I guess i should be happy - its not like I've worked on it.....

What are some of you over the hill guys doing? On a regular bike -open road - flat? I'm 57 and have too many years of too many beers.....

After 20 years of family-life, career, night school & 40,000 to 80,000 miles a year of airline travel, I'm cycling to get in shape. I'm happy to ride with better & younger riders and to just stay healthy.

See this thread (skip to post 189 for the results...and the first two entries were for humor's sake, so ignore them.)

Last summer, I tried a 20 mile DIY time trial, and did 18 mph. I might be a smidgen faster now.

On the other hand, I feel good about it. It's not like I started out faster and declined to that point, I improved to that point. A lot of it is in your perspective.

One of the guys here was talking about doing a 5.5 hour century a few days ago. That'd be great for me, not so hot for a lot of other people. But on the other hand, I looked up the chip-timing results for that ride, and at that pace, he would have been #1 in his age category.

Thanks for the link with the TT results - I know I should be grateful for my health - its just that it seemed like a real easy day with good pavement but for some reason the winds just seemed to be in my face all the time. My turn around time was on the nose - and my splits were fairly even.

Oh well - at least now we know what it takes to be world class......

Hey RC, your health is all you got! I'm still a youngster (50 next month) and not a real fast TT'er. It seems to me when I'm doing a TT the wind always seems to be in my face.:thumb: I did a 200k in 4:45 once but that was in a group so it probably doesn't count. In timed non drafting solo events the only thing I've done recently was the FC508. Not too long ago on stage two between California City and Trona I averaged 21.43mph for the 70.25miles with 4300ft of climbing.
