I've been fortunate to be able to ride twice at night in new fallen snow, in the woods. With just a headlight to see by, my tracks were the first. The feeling is awesome, peaceful. If you haven't done it, you need to!
We are supposed to get our first snow on Wednesday. I'm traditionally late for work on the first snow! I always take my bike to the wooded park trail and ride. Even if it's just for a few minutes.

ThanX for reminding me of the fun that awaits me sooooooooooooooooon. I had a great year of riding in the warmth of spring/summer/fall, now Im ready to take on winter with all it's extremes, and beauty. :)

More snow today but unfortunately rather wet and soggy. I think I will get some studded tyres this weekend and try them out. Riding in wet snow is more of a struggling experience than a Zen-like ride. Well, it was good as long as it lasted.

I agree riding in the snow in the dark, in fresh powder is fantastic. Similar to fresh powder sking. Try it on a huge lake if possible. With other riders with lights. It's surreal.

Night snow riding is the best.
I normally start my ride late in the, after things have started to freeze, cause the frozen snow provides more traction than powder or slush.

Took another ride yesterday, very dark but nice, powdery snow, almost at home however a car just in front of me hit a deer so I had to help her (the driver) get a hunter to kill the deer and call the police and report the hit. Off topic but still it was a nice moonlit ride.

I love night snow riding. Expecially on trails where there isn't much light. It's so much easier to see a white trail than a black one (most here are paved). It's kind of cool out here that I don't get to lay the first tracks all that often, unless it's still snowing when I ride. There's a feeling of satisfaction laying the first tracks, but it's also nice knowing that you aren't the only crazy one out there.

I absolutely love riding technical singletrack through some woods that wind alongside a river near my home during a blizzard. The ride can take anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes during the winter. In the winter I find that I use that as my primary homeward bound commuting road between work and home.

Most people think that I'm nuts but once you experience it you have to wonder if you were nuts not to have done this in the past!

There IS much point to your thread. Some of the most stunning moments I've spent on two wheels have been late at night on a my mountain bike along a snow covered road. So quiet and still; the only sound, my tires rolling softly over the snow. And a full moon reflecting off the white lighting my way! Oh my God, such a place in time, so special; made me feel very lucky to be alive, as a cyclist.
