Hey there, a quick question which I'm struggling to answer myself....

Currently I have the classic Super Record (circa '86) derailleurs with matching crankset on my main ride. The chainrings are the old 144 BCD size and are almost worn out.

Replacement rings seem te be quite hard (and expensive) to find... So rather than searching for them, I want to put on a first generation Chorus crankset (C-Record era) which I already have laying around (including 3 matching pairs of hardly used 135 BCD chainrings).

So my question is: Will adding the 'newer' Chorus-crankset to the 'older' Super Record-derailleurs work without much headache?

Thanks in advance!

Your SR crankset uses a 115mm spindle (offset to the driveside), the early Chorus either a 110m or 111mm (and it might be symmetrical, I'm not sure), so your chainline will be out a few MM. As long as your derailleur can swing out the additional required mm, you'll probably be OK.

Now if you have the proper BB, all will be well.

Thank you for the quick reply! I'm gonna try it out.

(I really need to put on that 39 inner chainring on this 7-speed bike, as I'll be heading for some hills next weekend ; )
