SRAM 10 speed shifters with Shimano 8 speed or "SHAM"
I am very curious about this older thread: http://www.bikeforums.net/archive/index.php/t-635884.html
Member "chriskitch" seems to have succeeded using a Shimano 8 speed system with SRAM 10 speed shifters, as the pull length must be fairly close to the Shimano cassette spacing.. Others disagree but he claims success..
I was interested in this set up merely because I wanted to take advantage of SRAM's hidden cabling and double tap system. My current set up is all Shimano 7402 Dura Ace 8 speed. Are there any members out there that can verify the possibility of this working?
My other question is this... if this set up theoretically works... shouldn't you be able to change the Cassette to Sram 10 speed? and get a full 10 speed system without having to change anything else? If all the indexing is the same, would you need to switch the chain? or would this work by changing out the just the shifters and cassette. Just curious if any one has tried this.. Seems as though if chriskitch has succeeded with his set up, that this should also work...
any reply or additional theories welcome..
thanks!
