I will most likely keep this bike as a fair weather rider but am curious about its value should i ever decide to find it a new home.

54 cm. I believe it to be 1982-1985 De Rosa Professional. It has the Eddy Merckx Super Prestige decal and columbus tubing.
Campagnolo Super Record with pantographed crankset, seatpost and brake levers.

Paint condition Excellent except for small chip in paint above downtube shifter (no ding at all).

All the bearings are smooth and wheels are true. I would completely restore the bike replacing housings, tires etc and add a San Marco Regal saddle prior to sale.

Forgive the pictures. I took them right after purchase .

I wouldn't sell it for anything less than $1500, those pantographs and the condition of the paint make it very valuable.

Agree with jet sanchez. I think the pantographing really helps the value, as does the bike's condition. I"ve never been a big fan of that decal scheme until seeing yours. Great bike, hope you can hold on to it.

A frame/fork very similar to yours was just listed on eBay with a bit more information for you. Team Samontana seems to be the colour and decal combination.

Thanks Jet!

I have talked to a few De Rosa experts and they believe it to be a 1983 De Rosa Professional with Columbus SL. I think i will keep it for at least a year and then make my decision. The ride is amazing and i love the look of the old super record components but truthfully its not as much fun for me to ride as my Guerciotti SLX with a modern campagnolo 10 speed group. I have the space to store it and ride in on sunny days and i don't believe it will lose any of its value in the next few years so i will probably hang onto it and see how much it really gets ridden and enjoyed.

This is such a great bicycle, and per normal, Jet's valuations come close to mine.

I would not sell that bike though.

That would be become a permanent member of the household De Rosa collection.

Thank you guys for helping me balance my addictions. I love buying and selling bikes as much as riding them. I am tempted by the flip because i only have *** into it and it seems like i would get a decent return. I do absolutely love the ride quality and the Super Record drive.

That being said... the bike isn't that fun to ride yet. The stem and the handlebars don't fit my riding style and i'm not a big fan of the non aero brake levers. I also hate the San Marco Rolls i have on there. I feel like i'd be committing a grievous crime by boxing up the cockpit and throwing on some 3T stem/bars and aero brake levers.

All of the being said. I'm still young and a student. $1500 is still a lot of money to me but i think in a few years having something rare, beautiful and fun will be worth much more to me.

I wish i had the love and respect for C & V that you guys do.

I absolutely melt over vintage frames but i'm all about modern comfort and technology. I have to resist the strong urge to sell off the pantographed parts and put on some modern brakes, levers and wheels.

Fear not. I will keep it original and I will ride it in nice weather and keep it in a safe, warm, and dry place.

I'll post an update over in C & V in a few months when i'm done working on it.

I plan to run yellow housing and bar tape, new gum hoods, hopefully a san marco regal and some delicious vittoria open corsa evo SC gumwall tires :D

I changed quite a few parts on mine but I kept all of the original stuff in a box so if I ever need to sell it, I can pop it all back on. Mine came with a first generation C-Record group, Cobalto brakes and a Brooks Pro saddle. Only the crank and seatpost are the same, they were too nice/rare to risk damaging---especially the Cobaltos as those little jewels are known to come loose and fall off. Now that I have everything dialed in and I am running a 10-speed Record kit on it, it is my favourite bike to ride.

It just so happens that my Guerciotti has 10 speed record shifters with centaur drive and mavic open pro chorus wheels. :D

If i have the frame spaced for the 130mm hub do i have to have it respaced to put the 126mm back on if i ever sell it?
