Hey all,

I'm about to buy two cargo bikes, one for me and one for my girlfriend, and I've narrowed down my options to the Kona Ute and the Xtracycle radish. Here are my thoughts:

Kona Ute -- a bit lighter at 40 pounds due to the aluminum frame. Weaker, maybe, although supposedly still capable of carrying another person (which is important to us). 9-speed rear, 2 chainrings. Disc brakes. Nice, waterproof bags. Comes in 2 sizes, medium and large, and I'm guessing I'd be a large (6'1) while my girlfriend would fit a medium well (5'7")... so better fit.

Radish -- it's an xtracycle, so we'd get all options that brings. The bags are open on the ends, so we could carry things like guitars, ladders, etc. Cro-moly, and thus heavier and tougher. 8 speed, only one chainring. Cheaper components all around, it seems...

Well, my question for you is this: which bike do you like more, and why?

Thanks!

The Ute seems to hold the load really too high. Did you even look at the Big Dummy? Have you thought about an Xtracycle attached to a mtb?

I second bugly's point. I have a Big Dummy and it seems the low center of gravity of the freeloader bags really help keep it stable.

I agree with the above posters. Xtracycle all the way. I rock mine with a triple chainring (42/34/24) and an 11-34, 8 speed cassette, w/disc brakes.
