Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - New bike for me

I was looking for something more upright than my Trek 5500 and had been test riding everything and anything remotely road-ish. I found out that Performance Bike opened a store in Allentown recently so today I took a drive down (2.5 hours one way for me) After looking at all kinds of stuff I settled between the Fuji Absolute 2.0 and the Newest 1.0 After a 15 minute outdoor ride on both I decided that the Newest 1.0 was what I was looking for. Even the stock seat was comfy with hiking shorts on!

List was $1149 and I walked out at $699! Seems like a pretty decent bike for shorter rides. I'll go on the maiden voyage tomorrow and really find out if I made a good decision.

Anyone else riding one of these?

Just read the specs at Performance Bike and this sounds like an excellent bike.

Busy day today...had a 12:00 ride with 4 guys and I had to bail due to too much work around the house. I finally got around to prepping the bike at 2 PM and got out on the road with it at 2:30. Only did a 12 mile ride with 400' of climb, but I found the Fuji to be very comfortable. The front derailleur shifter is very difficult to shift up so I need to look at that, but other than that I really like it. The inline brake levers are a welcome addition for me.

Just did another 13 miles with my 12 yr old daughter...her first road ride. Had to adjust the seat nose down a hair, but other than that it's pretty sweet.

My daughter was riding her Iron Horse MTB and half way out she said, "Dad...if we're going to do this more often, I'm going to need a road bike" I was coasting and she was pedaling hard to keep up!

That bike is absolutely gorgeous! I'm mad jelly even though I just got a new bike...I can't help but want them all haha. Also it's awesome that you've got your daughter into cycling too, congrats on her first road ride! Better get her a roadie so she'll stick with it now though. :p

Cheaper alternative is to go find some road tires for the MTB while it still fits her and see if she sticks with it...I went and bought my son a Cannondale to ride with me, he rode it for a week or so and then I see it laying on derailler side in a friends front yard, out by the street no less. Needless to say I sold it to a friend who appreciates it. He rides his MTB.

I'm going to investigate this option, but here's what I'm thinking:

She's nearly outgrown this bike now. Seat is all the way up and she doesn't have full extension at the bottom of stroke although she is not flat footed when stopped.
Road tires will probably cost me $50 or so...
I can buy an old-ish 10 speed for $25-$50 around here...I'm thinking that may be the way to go with her at first, but I'm open to suggestions....I'm going to start a new thread asking for suggestions for her.
