Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

The Dummy needs new tires. Currently it has Schwab big apples and I've been happy with them, But is there another tire I should consider?

I had BAs on my Dummy. When it came time for replacements I went with Schwable Marathon Duremes. The ride might not be as nice but they they seem to roll easier. They are a bit pricey though.
Running Marathon Supremes on mine-- very nice ride quality and almost 200g. less per tire (I have the folding bead).

Fat Franks. Does not roll as well as the big apples but they look nicer.... (if you like white or brown tires)

For bikes that I roll the miles on I almost exclusively run Schwalbe tires...don't mess with success.

depends on what application(s)/$ you are aiming at.
at the moment, I've got a set of WTB Mutano Raptor 2.4's on my BD.
they are good tires, I've used them off and on since their inception
on the cargo bike, of course, being a knobby, they tend to grind down
but of course in the dirt they totally rock
another tyre I've used are WTB Vulpines
again... another dirt tire, but a slick, intended for hardback.
this is another awesome tyre.
as to city/cargo/street use vs bang for the buck...
Sefras Drifters!
really... I have a set that are about $30 each, and have used them a lot, with little wear showing.

I am going with the Maxxis Hookworms. I roll them on my Bmx bike and they look nice.

as you know... they are heavy tires.
I like the aesthetics, tempted to do the same!

They wear well too. I've no experience with the 26" version, but I have a 20" and a 16" Hookworm on my recumbent, and a 16" on my Bob trailer, and they simply refuse to wear out.

I've had good luck with Continental Town and Countries with Schwalbe tubes (the heavy duty kind with the threaded schrader valve) on my dirt road/utility/winter bike.

I have a vision of you jumping the BD Bmx style

Not that speed is the number one requirement for utility applications but how do the Hookworms roll? I've head they're sometimes hard to mount and a bit sluggish but last nearly forever. I'd be willing to put up with rolling resistance for very long life. I have no hands on experience with them.

I've found them to be quite good rolling resistance wise. They are a high pressure tire, rated to 110 psi, although I don't run them quite that high.

I threw out the idea of the Maxxis hookworms and went 700c. I will post pics of this sacrilege later.

Did it make any appreciable change to the bottom bracket height or standover clearance?

It made it a little hard to mount with the kickstand down. I am replacing inner tubes like crazy. I hope the LBS has some slime.
