So my girlfriend got a neat little Bianchi Iseo. It has a triple front derailleur, Shimano FD-C051. The derailleur has a mechanism on the rear of the derailleur that limits the clearance between the frame and the rear tire.

I got the fender on but it's reeeeeeall close. I assume the mechanism thingee is there to lessen the amount of pressure it takes to change rings or something, I don't know. All my bikes have regular 105 or ultegra stuff.

Can I change out and upgrade that derailleur with a standard tiagra or 105 derailleur so that I can get more clearance for the fender?

Thanks.

i've had the same issue before. i used planet bike cascadia road fenders and zip tied them to the frame just just above the derailleur. worked perfect. much cheaper fix than a new derailleur.
