Hi.
My 7 speed crankset on Specialized Crosstrail 2010 (http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=45705&menuItemId=0)is getting old, and I'm heaving some issues with it.
I want to replace it with something newer and better technology than square taper.
I'm looking for something ...cheap, possibly Shimano, including new BB ( my current square taper reads: 118 L BC1.37 x 24T. I tried to find something online, but with no luck.
Please provide model numbers or links. Thank you in advance.

Why do you want something better than square taper?
EDIT: Whoops, my bad, I overlooked where it said you had issues with it.

Anyone? Any suggestions?
What's the problem? with the BB or with the crank? If you need to replace those parts now, on a 2010 bike you must really have piled on the miles - or had some sort of accident.
As for replacing the BB, the biggest shortcoming of square taper is lack of bling value. Hard to market a product that's just the same as it's always have been. If you want cheap, even less reason to look for an "upgrade".
Here's (http://www.cambriabike.com/shopexd.asp?id=91108&page=Shimano+Un54+Bottom+Bracket) a link to where you can find a direct repalcement of your BB - assuming you need one. Make sure you get the shell width right. As long as you get the torque about right when installing the crank arms, sqare taper is really a very reliable choice.
And here (http://www.cambriabike.com/shopexd.asp?id=95144&page=Shimano+Acera+Fc-M361+Crankset) is a matching crank. You'll lose the chain guard, but otherwise it's a modest upgrade from what you have.

Why not just go to you LBS, they should have or be able to get a Shimano UN54 118mm BB, it's not exactly an obscure part. As dabac, unless you are doing mega distance, a bike from 2010 shouldn't have worn out yet; would even look at how long ago you bought it, to see it the warranty covers this, tho it probably won't.

we cant just offer you a BB option because it's going to depend on the crank. Start looking at different cranks and they usually tell you what kind of BB comes with it. Nashbar has cheap cranks in the $70 range that use ISIS bottom brackets. When you start looking at outboard bearing cranks your looking at spending a lot more money for what is considered a bit of a low end bike. With all that said, some of those cartridge square taper BB units are garbage. If there is nothing wrong with the crank and it's just the BB consider spending a bit more money for a better quality square taper BB unit. As somoene else mentioned, I have a hard time believeing the crank is toast on a 2010 bike but then again if it was a cheapo crank it could be.

Crank and BB.
Very good option here. I bet that cheapo suntour crank on there now weighs 1200 grams by itself and another 300 for the cartridge BB. the deore lx should be of better quality and take a bunch of weight off your bike in the process which we all love to do right?

Crank and BB.
Bought this one for my mountain bike, but it's not a great option for hybrid bike... BTW...I love this crank...highly recommended!

Shimano BB with plastic cup is a really bad design. Plastic will crack easily in no time. I replaced several of cups in a short time before I decided to go with hollowtech II integrated one...no problems with this one.

Shimano's plastic nds cups are plenty durable IF you install and remove the bottom bracket properly (drive side cartridge in AND out first) and don't try to torque them excessively. It a decent design and the cost is very reasonable.
Note to the OP: If the crash damaged your crank, check the rest of the frame before just replacing the crank. You might have distorted or damaged the bottom bracket shell too.
