Just thought I'd give a bit of a roundup
on this years Ride for the Roses.
The weather was great, slightly overcast with temps
in the 70's during the ride.
Reports are there were over 7,000 riders
(one announcer mentioned something about 10,000)
The lead group was led out by Lance Armstrong,
Davis Phinney, Eric Heiden and
Robin Williams, and yes Robin Williams can RIDE
That was the last time most of us saw that group.
The weekend raised approximately $2.5 million US to
benefit cancer research.
The rides were of 10, 25, 40, 70 and 100 miles.
There is a run on Saturday, as well as a 1 mile
ride with Lance for kids.
There were some amazing stories, like the triathalete
who lost her leg to cancer, got fitted for a prosthesis
last month and completed the 40mile ride.
I rode in honor of my friend who was recently
diagnosed with Bladder Cancer.
Next year I plan on doing some fundraising and
try to qualify for the Peloton Project which as a benefit
gets to do a pre-event ride with Lance, although
the main goal is raising money for research.
This years Peloton Project members got either a
yellow, green, polkadot or white jersey based on the
amount that they raised, and as a tip of the hat to
the Tour De Lance (or is that France? )
This is a great ride, a great week end of events
(started off with concert by Stone Temple Pilots),
and all for a great cause.
