Has anyone combined fishing and cycling?
I'd like to hear from anyone who has experience with collapsable fishing poles. Something easy to take on a bike and not to pricey.

I carried a collapsable fishing pole on tours with a light spinning reel fully colapsed it measured about 12 inches I especially liked it in montana and idaho as i found some great fishing along my route and nothing better then fresh fish for dinner. If i remember right i bought this rig at either Fred Meyer or K mart it was cheep, wasnt the best fishing gear in the world, but i cought fish with it. i carried a few pieces of tackle like a couple favorite spinners and a few extra hooks, but mostly used worms and grubs for bait.
i think it is a good idea especially if you like to fish and eat fish and are going through some fine fishing places. many states have 3-5 and 10 day liscense

You mean like trolling along the beach with the line in the water and a pole attached to your bike?
Hmmm... that sounds like a neat idea.

Dave,
It certainly wasn't top-of-the-line, but a couple of yeaers ago I got a little set for my godson from KMart that was only $20. It was Shakespeare brand ultralight spinning set. The little rod collapsed to about a foot and extended to about 4.5 feet. It was nice enough that I thought about getting one for myself just to keep in the car. I think it would have been perfectly adequate for occasional use, certainly when going for small species of trout or panfish. Normally I tend to follow the get what you pay for philosophy, but for something for occasional use I am willing to take a chance on something inexpensive as long as I at least recognize the brand. Heck, if you just want to catch the occasional fish for dinner "under the radar" a little spool of mono and a few fish hooks, weights and bobbers will do nicely and weigh next to nothing.
FWIW,
Raymond

Right on guys. Thanks for the info! I am glad there are some inexpensive options out there. I'd actually like to try fishing for salmon when I ride thru AK and Canada, but I dunno if a cheapy pole will hold up. Anyhow, I'll start out with a Kmart one and figure it out from there.
Peace

Eagle Claw has (or at least did have) a 4 piece rod with a reversable handle for fly or spinning reels. I came in a stout alumimnum tube for reasonable $.

I have a Silver Eagle telescoping spinning rod, it collapses down to about 14" long and is nice and sturdy (sorry, never weighed it) and is a medium pole, in case ultralight isn't your thing and you want to go for big fat bass (or salmon--what the hey.) :P It was only $12 at a local sports shop a few years ago. You would have to buy your reel separately, though.
