Is anyone wearing a snowboard/BMX helmet for road riding? Are they vented enough so as not get to hot? It seems that the helmet mfg's are getting wilder with their designs. They are begining to look like a spaceship landed on your head.

I wear one that looks like a climber's helmet. It's I guess a mountain bike helmet, got it new off ebay for $10 is why I wear it. It is vented but probably a little heavier than the current road helmets but will do for me until I can afford better.

Consider the Bell Citi helmet for good cooling, great fit, and "normal" design. (the brim snaps off for a more rounded look)

I have a yellow Citi that is the most comfortable bike helmet I've ever worn.

I've been looking for a non-Power Ranger helmet myself. The Bern G2 (http://www.amazon.com/Bern-G2-Matte-Helmet-Visor/dp/B003SC3DX8) may fit the bill.

Only 100 bucks. That's not too outrageous. My Bell Volt was $200. Anything else made my butt look fat.

I use a Giro Transfer http://www.amazon.com/Giro-Transfer-Sport-Bike-Helmet/dp/B000BO3D18

Last week I helped my friend with a new bike and there were some very cool "reflectorized" helmets by Specialized. I am considering one of those as my next helmet.

Any idea how often un-crashed helmets need to be replaced? I remember reading somewhere that it was 3 years. I got mine in 2009.

I have a Nutcase helmet, which is probably similiar to what you are describing. http://www.nutcasehelmets.com/en/site
I like it a lot, but to be fair, it's only my second ever helmet.

Some really cool designs - you can be as "flashy" as you like.
