One week to the TT. Anyone else going to Bend?
Hi,
I'll be there watching you from behind (literally) in the 50-54 races. I'll be in my club skin suit (pink and blue) for the TT because my team didn't have a skin suit option. I'll be in my team kit (green and blue) for the crit and road race.

Hi Cleave,
We got a tough field for sure in the TT. I'll be in my Joe's kit, or just look for the guy with the crossed fingers. Going to pass on the crit and RR so good luck!

good luck out there, guys! i had the opportunity to ride the TT course (a bit shorter than the nat'ls course), the crit and the RR during the cascade classic. fantastic riding out there!
i hope to make it out for 2012 nationals. if i can help you with any info, let me know.

Hi tetonrider,
I am going to recon the TT and road courses when I get up there but what kind of gearing to you recommend? Based on the published profiles, I was figuring 55 X 44 and 11-23 for my TT bike and 53 X 39 and 12-25 for my road bike. TIA.

ok, here's the caveat: the TT course for cascade was just the out & back ascent/descent, not the loop around the golf course. i understand that has some steep rollers.
i actually ran 53/39+11-23 on the TT bike. i'm a bit of a spinner, and while if i were going all-out for just the TT i probably would have wanted 55T big ring up front. i was still able to spin and put out about 90% FTP on the descent, which was what i wanted to do for pacing. (keep in mind this was part of a stage race for me.)
if you are confident on your TT bike in terms of handling and want to put out max power, you'll want the biggest gear you can run. 39x21 or so was fine for me on the ascent. (my FTP is 4.4w/kg, for what it's worth.) i tend to spin at 90+ while climbing.
it's worth scoping the course. my experience is that you either want to be on the right or left side of the land and not so much in the middle--there's a bit more "pavement weirdness" in the center. however, in the 2 "ruts" where car wheels most often travel, it's pretty good. the course is pretty protected from winds, with the exception of one short area at the bottom.
for the nationals road race, i ran 50/34+11-25, but only because that's what i needed for the other stages. i think you'd be fine with 53/39+12-25. i didn't spin out at 50x11, and i doubt you would at 53x12--butat around 38+ on descents i tend to coast vs push in most circumstances. there are essentially 2 climbs. one is longer but not terribly steep, and the other is sharp but short. if you're looking to do well (which i assume everyone will be aiming for!), you're probably not going to be in the 39x25 on that climb.
the awbrey butte circuit is really cool! make sure you're at the front when you come out of the last roundabout.
does that help?

+1 Rip some legs off guys.
does that help?
Yes, definitely, thank you very much!
Hi,
Pre-rode the TT course on my road bike and it has a lot of climbing throughout. I easily hit 38 MPH on the long descent without trying very hard. I'm probably going to hit the highest top speed I've ever done on a TT bike. :twitchy: I went back on my TT bike to do the relatively short finishing loop and I'm hoping my 44 X 23 is low enough. I'm not one to spin a lot on climbs but I'm not a grinder either. I figure if it's not low enough I'm too slow anyway. :p
