Touring - Good touring gear...?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

"Whazap,
Recently bought myself a Cannondale Terra 2002 <aka f300>...Got into riding pretty heavily lately and may start touring soon, so i figured i'd buy a tent. I was curious if anyone has tried the Zoid 1.5 or Zoid 2.0 MSR tents? Its hard to find a good review on these tents, so if anyone can help with some input; i'd appreciate it. Thanks.
"
-this was the previous msg. I ended up buying the zoid 2.0...THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK GUYS! <sheesh  >
O most awesome and everpresent Mike-
I'm thinking not very many people have that gear you were looking for. Hang in there... it'll happen.
In the meantime, I'm working on my touring gear. I am thinking the best investment I could make is in the panniers I'm getting from Arkel. Those panniers are so compact I could weep! I had a good conversation with one of the owners of the shop yesterday, and he is aware I'm leaving next week and is rushing over my stuff. He also recommended some places in the Chicago area for me to go to for additional stuff.
How about this? As I travel, I will give you the low-down on the equipment I use and let you know what the best touring gear I bought was.

Im glad the first reply came from you... ;)
I got my Zoid 2.0 in the mail today. Quite a nice tent; its not free standing but is only 4 lbs <and good for 2 people>...its a 3 season, and its quite nice and ventilated w/o the fly. The fly makes nice vestibule sized areas and covered well <rain>.
Yeah, let me know what you use and what works well...ill need to know good stuff for when i go touring.
The tent can be found here... http://msrcorp.com/tents/zoid2.asp
-thx
Ok....
I'm about to use my favorite phrase when I talk about something I really like and wished I'd done or wished I'd had...
Oh schnap!
That's a nice tent! I like how it's competely open so you can literally sleep under the stars. I looked for something like that, but I ended up with the tent I chose- I'm sure it's a nice one, but I haven't tested it. Come to think of it, I haven't done anything with it. Shoot, I better learn how to put it up when I have less than a week to go before my trip!
Well, let me know how that tent works. It sure seems lightweight! I'm inclined to get one like yours for my next trip.
Ciao!

Schnap?
was that over the fact that its a nice tent, or that it has room for another besides just myself ?
Koffee's thesaurus:
schnap... I think that's a noun or something along those lines.
You are so silly. Of course you know I didn't mean that!
