thinking about getting a Surly LHT frame and don't like the decals too much.. are they under clear coating or can I get rid of them with a hairdryer or acetone?

thanks!

The decals are not under the clear coat and you can scrape them off easily.

Surly LHT's aren't clearcoated at all. The finish is a powdercoat, and the decals are on top of that.

Btw, I have a good friend who lives in Basel, he's been there for several years now. He loves it, and he hasn't owned a car since he's been there. He rides his bike pretty much every where he goes.:)

If it's anything like my wife's LHT, they'll come off by themselves with no effort on your part, anyway. ;-)

The decals on my Cross Check aren't clearcoated either but, so far, they've stayed put pretty well. It's my "rain bike" so it's treated pretty badly all the time and nothing has peeled off.

I have a Surly LHT. Great bike, but the much of the decals have come off in past few years. Some came off in first few months with tape applied during a Mexican group ride. The organizers taped labels to the bikes for the ride. When the tape for the labels was taken off, the decals came off with the tape. No problem, just looked a little funny till the rest of the decal rubbed off over the next year or so....

the easiest way to remove decals is with duct tape. apply & pull...like a body hair waxing.
