I'm going to be up at the Devil's Tower on Labor Day, and I'll have one day to road ride by myself.

I'm looking for recommendations for rides from the Devil's Tower, preferably mostly paved, safe to do alone, in the 50-100 mile range, with nice scenery and light-ish traffic. I'll have a tour bike with 28mm tires, so dirt roads in good condition (not loose gravel) are ok as connectors, but not my preference.

I can take a mountain bike instead if that provides better options, but I'm not looking for "mountain biking"

TIA!

Have a great time! Pack extra water as we found that almost all the water within a day's ride had a fairly unpleasant metallic odor/taste.

Hi Valygrl -

Did you find any rides? I'll be up there this weekend too and am looking to do a similar ride more like 50 - 70 miles. I have two century rides to do the following two weekends and need to ride.

I will probably climb devil's tower (rock climbing not cycling) saturday but would be up for a ride Sunday.

Let me know if you have any ride ideas - sline00@gmail.com.

Thanks!

Steve

Steve - wow, that's exactly what I'm doing, climb Saturday ride Sunday! I figured out a 86 mile loop that I'm planning to do - there are probably better rides, but they are either out-and-back or way too long point-to-point (like, riding to Hill City), and the really good ones are probably in the Spearfish/Deadwood/Lead area, which I don't want to do with holiday traffic. I think this loop should be pretty low traffic and has enough resupply options. I've been on the northern part of it years ago, and it was pretty nice.

I'm going to be riding my heavy tour bike, since I am riding the Mickelson Trail the next day and can only bring one bike, so I'll be slow, but if you want to try to at least start together, that would be fun!

I'll email you at your address above, look for mail from a yahoo address sometimes it goes to people's spam box.
