Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Thinking about Getting a crankset

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Hey, im new here i would like some help looking for a crankset that is compatible with the Dawes MTA. Yes i understand its cheap, but i still love it to death. So yeah the dawes comes with 3 piece cranks,a Euro Cartridge BB and i would like to switch over to the more common cranksets you see on fixed gears/single speeds. What would i have to look for in order to know that it will work?
Any help is appreciated

Those are the more common cranks. Why do you want to change them?

S300 Courier's are kind of like budget Omniums if you want to keep it in the Sramily..
So I can use w/e crankset?

Sram S300 Couriers come with a GXP bottom bracket, the same one that comes with Omniums.

I need to see photos of the bottom bracket before I can make a recommendation. BMX bottom brackets come in all shapes and sizes. What's commonly known as "English" doesn't commonly go on BMX bikes.
Post a pic of your current crankset.

ok ill post it tommorrow. for now just look at this http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-BICYCLE-TRACK-FIXED-GEAR-BIKE-FIXIE-SINGLE-SPEED-/380359484553?pt=Road_Bikes&hash=item588f312489#ht_9151wt_1091. there are pictures of it.
EDIT-By english i mean euro cartridge. made a Mistake.

That's not a BMX crank. It's just a really cheap 3-piece road crank. The bottom bracket is of a standard, "English" square-taper style. If you want to keep it cheap, remove the existing crank and bottom bracket and measure the spindle. Then find a crankset that requires the same spindle length. If you don't mind spending another 30 bucks, you can replace both the crank and bottom bracket. I'd recommend the latter since you'll be replacing that loose ball BB with a maintenance-free cartridge style, and you'll have a lot more options when choosing a crankset.
Great! But it says it comes with a euro cartridge BB. so is this the type of Bottom Bracket you are talking about? Or is it what you described a loose ball bearing one.

I can't say for certain that it is a loose ball BB, but in one of the photos there's clearly a BB lock ring on the non-drive side, which would indicate that it's of a much older style. I'd need a closer look at it to be sure.
So what type of bottom bracket would i get? I understand a cartridge English one, but specifically A model of bottom bracket. Would i just get one made for a english bb and with a square taper?

can i not get this http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1032278_-1_20000__400184 and Attach a crankset of my choice depending on the spindle size i choose?

No. Cranksets are propriety items. They take one size. So choose whatever cranks you wants, then get the spindle.

Way to confuse the kid, guys. The Dawes MTA takes a standard English-threaded BB.
Rust'y right though - unless you're buying a SRAM crankset with included GXP BB, you'll need to pick your cranks then buy BB with a the corresponding spindle length.

Shimano UN-54 is a good, cheap bottom bracket.

boo plastic cups.

Nothing really wrong with a plastic NDS cup but yeah, I'm not really fond of it either.

Why are you not fond of them? So all i have to do is get a matching bottom bracket with the length of the spindle that the crankset requires.whether it be the omniums Or the all citys.
English Bottom brackets are 68mm right?
And what is the difference in Iso and JIS?

Use The Force, Luke.
The Sram s300 courier only come in 48t from what i see. That would give me a gear ratio of 48/16. a horrible ratio for skid patches. Sucks, i was really looking forward to getting them. I dont want to change my cog at the moment.

Cogs aren't very expensive dude.
Yes i am aware.... But i'm afraid i don't have the tools to install The crankset, Bottom Bracket, and Cog. And, i also do not know what tools are needed for installing the crankset and bottom bracket.Hahaha. Well if i were to get the Sram i would need to buy a a new cog. So i guess i will buy the all city 612 crankset. still on edge, but i will think it out by the time i have all the money needed.
