Bicycle Mechanics - Campy Long Cage Der. Specs...anyone have them?

I'm trying to determine what gear combinations are available if I go with a Campy rear Der. The Campy website lists the length, but not stuff like Max/Min, max Difference and capacity. Anyone know where I can find this info for a mirage/veloce(sp) long cage rear der.?

I want to run a 32 or 34 in back with a 50/40/30 in front but don't know if Campy drivetrain can handle it. I don't think it will, but I want to check because I really prefer Campy shifters to Shimano and don't want to mess with a converter. I guess I should specify 9 spd. Does anyone even make a 32 or 34 cog that is Campy compatible?

ThanksA veloce 10 speed is speced for a 29 large cog. Might handle a 32 but can't say it's been confirmed. don't count on a 34.No big Campy cogs I know of either.

Let's take a look at a practical example:
Can the Centaur 10s rear derailleur be used with the 13-29 sprocket set and the 39-53 crank set?
The description of the Centaur 10s rear derailleur reads: minimum sprocket 11, maximum sprocket 29, capacity 30 and maximum front difference 14.
The minimum sprocket and the maximum sprocket are therefore perfectly compatible.
Capacity = (29-13) + (53-39) = 30
Front difference = (53-39) = 14
The Centaur 10s rear derailleur can therefore be used with the 13-29 sprocket set and the 39-53 crank set.

Second practical example:
Can the Centaur 9s rear derailleur be used with the 13-23 sprocket set and the triple 30-40-50 crank set?
The description of the Centaur 9s rear derailleur reads: minimum sprocket 11, maximum sprocket 29, capacity 30 and maximum front difference 14.
The minimum sprocket and the maximum sprocket are therefore compatible.
Capacity = (23-13) + (50-30) = 30
Front difference = (50 –30) = 20
The Centaur 9s rear derailleur cannot therefore accept the maximum front difference of the triple crank set; the Centaur triple 9s rear derailleur should be used, with a maximum front difference of 22 teeth.


If you look at the components specs (derailleurs and crank sets) you will see the "capacity" specifications. With the examples above you could figure it out.. Campy is very conservative with their calculations and in some cases you could get away with a medium RD where they recommend a large one. They assume you will ride on small/small and large/large combinations..
the difference between a long and a short cage is weight only. They all perform the same..
