General Cycling Discussion - What kind of shoes do I need for these pedals?

Sorry for the dumb question.

I need to get some proper cycling shoes, and I read that there are different types of clipless. These pedals came on my mountainbike a few years ago, and now they're on my road bike. But I'm not sure what shoes exactly I need to get to make sure they work with them.

Not necessarly. Some people prefer MTB shoes on their road bike or hybrid because they are easier to walk in. I had crank brothers on my road bike for a year before going to a road shoe and road pedals.

So the pedals are MTB ones obviously. But I wouldn't be limited to MTB shoes.

I really don't honestly understand how clipless pedals/shoes work. So theres the shoe and the pedal, then the cleat? Do the shoes normally come with them?

I see that some shoes say 2-bolt/3-bolt compatible. I dont know what that means for me though.

The pedals look like SPD (or maybe Wellgo or Ritchie ... they don't look quite like my SPD pedals). But if you go into a shop and ask for MTB pedals or cleats, they'll ask you which kind you'd like ... there are several.

Just to add to your confusion, I ride with SPDs, and Rowan rides with Time Atak (not quite sure of the spelling) and both are MTB pedals but are quite different. And we both ride road bicycles ... we just prefer the MTB pedals and shoes.

So, you'd want to take your pedals into a shop when you go looking for shoes and cleats.

2 bolt are usually more MTB type cleats (like SPD), and 3 bolts are usually road bike type cleats (like LOOK).

That's just an SPD pedal with a flat pedal insert on one side. You can use SPD cycling shoes on one side or regular street shoes for the other. You can remove the flat plastic insert on the one side to have a dual sided SPD pedal.

Areed, its an spd pedal with a shimano pedal adapter.

Cleats come with the pedals but you can buy cleats at most any bike shop.
