Before the tropical storm (for me) hit, my bike didn't have any problems. Now the 'big' gear (the one in the middle, not the back) doesn't seem to work properly.

The problem? I can't seem to switch up big gears: 1, 2, and 3.

It doesn't seem to be stuck on a single gear - if I set it to 2 and then I manually put the chain at 2 gear, then it stays there.

When I set the gear to 1, it will go to 1 like it should. Then when I set it to 2 again, it won't go up and will make this hitching sound once every rotation of the wheels unless I set it back to 1.

Here's some quick pics I took of the bike before I had to catch the train:

Any idea what's the problem?

edit: I also noticed that the chain would almost switch up to the 2 gear halfway, but won't. It would just hang suspended between 1 gear and 2 gear. If it switch it back to 1 gear it will go back.

The earthquake we had recently toppled my bike as well...now the tires keep rolling off.

I'll upload pics later so folks can figure out what's wrong.

=8-)

I suspect your front derailleur got whacked out of alignment. Check that the cage is not twisted at an angle with respect to the chain line.

Perhaps this may help: http://bicycletutor.com/adjust-front-derailer/
