hi,
I have a trek 1220 that has a brifter for the right side and a friction downtube shifter on the left...
I was thinking about getting a set of barcons where I would install the left one and when or if the brifter dies then installing the right side...

on the brifter side there seems to be some cable stop thing (a technical term) that looks pretty nice... does anyone know what it is called and where I could find it?

thanks!

U are talking about the cable barrel adjusters??? U can tight or lose the cable right?

Go to any lbs they always have those in stock.

Look at jagwire web site they have several models.

Search on "downtube cable stop", maybe?

Yep, they are called "downtube cable stops" and a pair came with every aftermarket set of Shimano brifters. Most bike shops will have a box full of left-overs from customer upgrades. They will either give them to you or sell you a pair at low cost.

Ask at a few LBS's; I'm lucky enough to live in a town with about four, and the first three shops looked at me like I was crazy. I had to point to them on a bike, and even then I got a 'you can't buy those, they come with the frame.'

Luckily, the last shop fixed me right up.

Actually, we used to have lots of extras, but have had to start ordering them in, since Shimano no longer automatically includes them with shifters anymore......and even still, they hardly ever have the curved ones that fit steel frames better....

I had to pay like $14 for mine at the LBS... Couldn't find them much cheaper online. I felt like I got robbed, but maybe this is the going price nowadays.
