.....for the next 7-9 months

So we signed a contract on a short sale and our current space is limited. I told my fiancee she has permission to tell me 'NO' if I'm thinking of buying another bike and she asks, 'for how long?' to which I reply "2 months from when we move into the new house" to which she then replies "4, but you can buy all the parts you want.". I then asked if frames counted as 'parts' and she said 'yes'. :)

The bike I just bought better be all it's internet lore says it is......it'll be my last for awhile. (unless I slide a frame set build)

Here it is....the last bike purchase for awhile. I acquired it from the original owner who purchsed it in 1986 from R&A Cycles in Brooklyn. All C Record except for the brake calipers which are SR and the brake levers which are aero Dia Compes. The seats a funky Regal Girardi.

Very nice Jim. What wheels are on there? Do you intend to keep it as found?

By the way, the funky Regal is the rarish mag railed version. It actually has a tension adjustment, and requires a longer than normal bolt. I have a friend that is attmpting to recover an old Regal as an experiment for me. He was unable to sorce the proper sized rivets, but may have a workable solution. I will let you know how it turns out.

Congrats!

John,

The rims are Trek Matrix semi-aero laced to C-Record freewheel hubs, the rims will be changed. Its a good point you make about the seat post needing a longer bolt as it's been switched to an allen bolt from the OE hex head. I plan on keeping the bike but my wife has taken a liking to it, if I can get her fit to it it'll probably become her's and then we'll sell off her '73 Paramount P65. I typicaly ride 54cm C2C top tube bikes, this ones a 53, my wife's 5'5" so it may too big for her.

Short sale? We had two contracts on two condos and both fell through. The owning banks wanted full retail price - go figure.

Congratulations Jim,

Such a beauty!

I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.

At some point, if you wouldn't mind adding some pics of the fork crown and seat caps, it would be fun to see them.

Very nice bike indeed miamijim. I suppose if you have to put the brakes on spending at the moment, this is a great bike to finish on. What are your plans for the brakes? Are you going to leave them as is or might you change them for something Campagnolo? I know the present brakes are perfectly fine and do look great.

Anyway, congratulations on for buying such a nice bike.

I can't imagine that ban lasting long. As long as you follow the "Miamijim" rules:

1. Bikes pay for bikes.
2. Minimum margin >$100. As I recall, you have a knack of finding deals on the real high end stuff, where the margins are 5X this amount.

You should be able to "justify" picking up a deal here and there. Just keep them moving out, and she will like the financial results.

I think I remember that bike...oh and if you need to hide bikes or parts, I've got a secured garage that is pretty much all bikes now..

Our offer is $5/ft less than market retail so I think we'll be OK, we are willing to pay what other houses in the area have comp'd for.

I will but probably not untill Sunday or Monday.

The levers will be changed, I have a few pairs of Campy levers but I'm sure which models. What ever I switch them to they will be of the Record level.

I guess its was on/off CL for awhile now and I'm vary happt with the price I paid. And thanks for the offer to hide parts but I'm OK......in rality she doesnt care what I do as long bikes and parts dont work their way into living areas of the house.

...in reality she doesnt care what I do as long bikes and parts dont work their way into living areas of the house.

Boy, I would be dead meat for sure. Lets see, there is the Cannondale frameset on the family room couch right now. And the bike in the living room along with a couple of boxes of misc parts, bike tools, etc. Oh yeah, and the living room on our duplex is now my main bicycle workshop, bedroom #1 is the tool and part room, bedroom #2 is the completed bike and more parts room, and so on. We won't be renting that out for a while.... Not that it is in condition to rent anyway. Something about no heat and no water makes it difficult to rent. That will be next year's project.

I'll be interested to see what you think of the ride. Get rid of those Matrix ISO's before you pass judgement, though.

Thats a great example as to what a difference lighting can make in a photograph. I'm not a very good photographer and I struggle to take pictures of a bike's true colour. I tend to find a taking a photo outdoors on a bright but overcast day is my best option to get the frame colour about right.

Again, love your DeRosa.

Jim, beautiful Rosita! If you ever need space, and since I live in Orlando, let me know, and you can use my house as an additional air conditioned storage unit. No fees of course! Lovely bike! Thanks!
