Been reading a bunch of the wonderfully informative threads here and I figured I'd jump into the deep end of the pool and say heya.

6'1" 260ish, riding mostly for fitness at first... but sometimes I have to restrain myself from jumping on so I don't overdo it. Not in great shape as I have pretty bad asthma but I think its getting better as I lose the poundage. Started out 2 years ago at 296 walking and going through the Naturally Slim program (Its awesome BTW), and that dropped me to 260ish. Put 15 back on during a bit of stress and took it back off down to 248 about a year ago. Put some back on, and I'm working now to take it back off.

My ride after a bath and a lube:

2010 Diamondback Sorrento sitting on an indoor trainer as 105 degree summers don't make for good riding ;)

In any event... Hi!

Hey welcome to the forums. I agree with you witht he heat. The week I started commuting to work was the hottest week of the summer 106 degrees made for a miserable ride.

At least its a dry heat. Its a lot easier to go out and ride than it is to go out and walk. Cycling has a built in crosswind ;)

A 70oz camelbak loaded with icewater is a godsend :)

There is no such thing as a dry heat here in Upstate NY...

clyde: do you really notice the cold coming through on your camelback?

Do you like your trainer?

Call me Moose ;)

The cold doesn't come through the camelbak as its pretty well insulated. It is nice when I stop for a break and douse my arms and head though. As well as having cold water easily accessible. I tried with just a bottle, but I'm not coordinated enough to grab, drink, replace at speed. Plus its a nice place for my wallet, keys and cell phone.

I love my trainer. Its a cheapy one I got from sears (like 60 bucks). It lets me get my spin on when its dark or really stupid hot outside.

mooseL is it loud?

Its not silent. But I can hear my TV over it, and it doesn't wake people up down the hall. When I got it it made quite a racket, but after a bit of wrenching (The interior bits were loose and rattling) and lubing (and a change of tires from nubbly MTB tires to more roady tires) and its actually pretty good.

Its good. But its no substitute for getting outside under the daystar.
