I'd like to buy my son a new bike and have two possible options, the Dawes Bullet at £225 or the Raleigh Gritstone at £200.

My wife has had a Dawes bike for nearly 10 years and had good service from it. But when I was younger Raleigh were a good brand. The salesmen for the Raleigh claims the brands are very similar to each other, but obviously he has a vested interest in me buying the Raleigh. However my son has had a test ride on it and found it ok. The Dawes on the other hand will need to be ordered in with payment in advance.

For reasons I won't go into I need to make the decision in the next 24 hours, so I'd appreciate some swift feedback.

Many thanks.

Details matter more than Brand name . compare the designated materials in each.
and the parts pick, item by item.

£200~225 suggests it's rather low in either range ... sacrifices were made
to get the price down that low..

Raleigh has 2 more letters , :innocent:

Both are probably made by the same plant in China...you makes your choice and pays the devil.

Compare the components that come stock with the bike. If they are equal, check the fit, if it is still the same...get the one which strikes your visual fancy.

As far as quality goes, they should be the same. Better still, let your boy choose...he'll ride it more.

This is your best advice!

Take it and run! :thumb:

PS.

Go to your closest Raleigh Dealer and Check the fit. I think Target carries Dawes, you might be able to check the fit there. If not, go with Raleigh! :)

Depending on how old your son is, he's not gonna care what kinda components each bike comes with. Plus, since your budget range is within £25, both bikes should be pretty similar. As mentioned by one of the other members, I would just pick the one that looks cooler.
