Classic & Vintage - 2012 De Rosa models

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Anyone else see the 'new' model for 2012, a Nuovo Classico? Lugged steel, flat fork crown, but I cant find any info on it. The De Rosa site has a picture, no description. I found a Taiwanese site with a few more pictures, but no info.

Anyone know anything about it?

Interesting! I wonder what the tubing will be. There's nothing better than classic Italian geometry with newer steel and parts.

I like it but no, I have no knowledge of what the tubing might be, maybe that 2009 SL stuff?

Those can be changed out easily enough. Though you'll probably need a headset, too.

They have chrome lugged, steel road bikes by Trek at your LBS?
Lucky man/woman.
I never cared for Treks, though I hear they make good bikes.

Trek makes a lugged steel frame with chromed headlugs and De Rosa geometry? Which model would that be? Is it similar to their "Peterson" model featuring lugs with wing dings and triple chain stays with room for car rims?

I took the daring move of emailing DeRosa for information.
The new Nuovo Classico is a very attractive road bike, and I'll enjoy hearing more about it.

Yep, just waiting for that lugged, CF touring bike w/ friction shifting, "Bontrager" written on every available surface and I am all set.....
In reading the bad translation, I can't tell, is this DeRosa made in Taiwan? (Not kidding)

It's not a Pinarello. Made in Italy.

I wish you guys would quit posting pictures of ugly, no style garbage bikes that I have no interest in. I am going to go to target and look at real bikes like Magna, Next...and maybe even the the grail, a Denali.

Denali's are re-badged Rivendell's.

Nahhh...they're made on the other side of the factory, with the Surlys and Pinarellos.

Seriously question: Can anyone with a classic de rosa (not sure how to define...so arbitrarily.. mid 90's or older) compare the ride with current ones.
I know it is all relative and even with "classic" bikes some have liked one tube set/bike model over others (seems like a number of people really like the EL tubed Primatos)

I loved the ride of my '77. One of my favorites of all time - comfy, but turned in as soon as you thunk it. Dog would hunt.

I actually like it with the quill stem. The only thing I question is the downtube shift lever bosses? I realize it's a throw back style bike but why put them on it if it's setup for newer parts and 130 rearend? Bait and switch...

De Rosa has been quite attentive at NAHBS in the past - at least they were there in Indianapolis. I'm betting they're paying attention to trends in custom steel frames. That may account for the shifter bosses - they may be anticipating older components being used for the frame. There are, after all, cable guides that will fit over those bosses. "Bait and switch" is in any case a bit of a strong term. I'm guessing if you expressed and explained it to Ugo, it would earn you a punch in the nose.

Quill stem absolutely better looking
as for bosses...my opinion only, but I think it is a cleaner look than having the shifter cables go into stops at the head tube.... those stops take away from the details of the head tube for me. Maybe the De Rosa bunch thinks the same way :)

What is the world coming to? I wholeheartedly agree.
I also seriously doubt that the "Master F'er Up'er" is in the market for a new, or even used, De Rosa.

Exactly Old Fat Guy. The Master F'er Up'er rides no De Rosa! I will stand on Ugo's coffee table in just a cowboy hat and boots and challenge the old koot to punching me in the nose.

Ugo's pretty old by now, so he may not pack much of a wallop in the "punch in the nose" department. But he's still italian, which means he ought to be able to cuss you out pretty well. Plus, he does have sons and grandsons to his punching for him.
And if he has sons, that would suggest he has a wife. An Italian wife. In a black dress. You do not mess with old Italian women in black dresses. At least, not more than once.
