I have an old GT Tachyon, back when it was they called a "crossover" bike. Nice bike, 57cm, Suntour XCD components, XC Ltd triple crank, Suntour command shifters. The biggest detractor is it has those stupid 700D tires and by now they are impossible to find. In addition, I bought and ride my Centurion for road use and just do not want to have a huge stable of bikes. I have listed it for sale and really do not get any bites, but I can hardly blame people for the tire issue. The bike is in really nice shape, much better than average for a bike that is 20+ years old. The tires are even in good shape.

Here is my question: Should I part the bike out or continue to try and sell it intact?

Sell it intact, due to tire/wheel size. Are they 6, 7 or 7/8 speed Command shifters?

I have seen these converted to 650B without any issues. (if it was a 53-54 I'd be all over it!).
Nice bike, i think you should keep it!

Cheers,
Chris

Keeping it is out, no real desire to keep it and it will simply not get used. If I were close enough to work to commute, I would keep it for that. That said, commuting 83 miles one way is simply not practical. I considered the conversion, but I am not willing to invest that much into the bike for something I wouldn't use.

The shifters seem to be marked 7 speed. Suntour Accushift Plus, 7 speed.

It just seems to me that selling the parts may be easier and benefit more people. heck, I bet the tires would sell quickly were I to take them off and sell seperately.

The 700d tires are a non-issue. You can put 650b tires on 700D rims pretty easily. I have Panaracer Col de la Vie 650b tires on my Tachyon.

Hello,

What is the current status of this bike? If you are parting, I would like to buy some of the components. Please let me know. Thanks.

I say sell it outright. They're not making any more of them and like others stated they're an easy switch to 650b.
