I took a short ride across the Tacoma Narrows bridge today. http://retrocycler.blogspot.com/2011/09/narrows-escape.html

I used to ride across the old narrows bridge, the new one is light years ahead in safety and enjoyment. Looks like you enjoyed the ride. Pickles looked good as well...:thumb:

I moved away before the second bridge was built, but I would love to take a ride over the bridge. A second on the pickles!

Here's a clip of my last journey across The Narrows.

That's me in the overcoat. Talk about your narrow escapes. Unfortunately, I did lose my brand new Packard...

I'm sure most everyone in the Puget Sound area knows the story of "Galloping Gertie" (I 1st heard of it years ago while I was still living in Ohio), but in case you don't, here's a very interesting WSDOT page of info on the bridge & its demise: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/tnbhistory/Connections/connections3.htm

There are still pieces of the old bridge on the hillside and underwater.

There's an exhibit about this bridge at the Harbor History Museum in Gig Harbor. Several pieces of the old bridge are in the display. Worth seeing.
