Advocacy & Safety - Yahoo Answers

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I go looking for cyclist haters around the net and one of the places I sometimes find them is on Yahoo Answers. Here's a recent example:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110904101154AAV88Ln
Ever drive by a bicycler on a 50MPH road who wouldn't get out of your way and...?
...and copped an attitude with you as you passed? Anything wrong with slamming on your brakes to avoid the squirrel that ran in front of you just after passing the bicyclist?...even if it means they slam right into the back of your vehicle? Sounds like biblical justice if you ask me!
I've already answered this one. Anyone else want to jump in?
EDIT: Nevermind. The asker has already closed the question. The odd thing is that usually these idiots close the question early when they find one person to agree with their angry delusions. He actually picked my answer (the only answer given), which was surprising. I'm guessing that he realized that other people in the safety group would be chiming in and agreeing with me and he didn't want to have a large number of people calling him a psycho.

He already gave you 'Best Answer':thumb:, then had the audacity to spew more hatred:mad: when he made the remark of "Bill---respect the power of the vehicle your messing with...sharing the road works both ways. There are a few bicyclists out there who don't...but I'm sure you already knew that...you might even be one of them."
The guy obviously either, never heard about what Dr. Christopher Thompson:eek: did out in Los Angeles. If he did, he is just as hateful of cyclists if not worse, as Dr. Thompson.

I couldn't help but notice that even though he picked your (lone) answer that he still was expressing anger towards cyclists.

Yeah. The argument goes on in the comments. He's a real psycho.

I couldn't help but notice that even though he picked your (lone) answer that he still was expressing anger towards cyclists. That's probably because the only way for him to close the question was to pick an answer. Notice also that he rated it 1 out of 5 stars, the lowest possible rating.

I e-mailed him, apprising him of what happened to Dr. Thompson in Los Angeles, after Dr. Thompson pulled a stunt like that. I won't be surprised if I receive the 'four-letter serenade' in his reply.

I hadn't noticed that. It's not surprising though, is it?

It wouldn't surprise me either.

Everyone needs a hobby, I guess, but still...

Here is what he replied with verbatim: "You obviously didn't read the original question to begin with...I stated a hypothetical situation involving a squirrel running into the path of my car that I was trying to avoid hitting...a course of events dictated by the Universe...not neccesarily by ME. Then again, the bicyclist answerer ignored that as well and never denied he was "messing" with traffic and presumes everyone in a motor vehicle is a bully. I think you both took my question too seriously....unless of course you are ALSO Bill.".
No four-letter serenade, YET.:notamused: But I am chewing the guy out for his repeated ignorance.
He is responding via Yahoo Answers, like the typical motorist telling cyclists' to get off the road.:notamused:
Yahoo Answers seriously has the dumbest user population of any major site on the Internet. And that's saying a lot, given how YouTube comment sections are. The people on answers are famous for stupidity, and a lot of them seem to be kids in their early teens. I go there when I want to put my finger on the pulse of what all America's morons are thinking. It's not surprising that they would be idiots about cyclists too.

He's blocked me so that I can't see his questions anymore.
Typical. These idiots can't handle being challenged.

I find too many in the real world to bother looking for them in the virtual world. They're as plentiful on our roadways as fast food trash and beer cans are on our roadsides. In this case correlation may indeed be related to causation.

On the rare occasions that I do, they're gone in seconds and I never get to explain to them their lack of understanding of the law or safety.

Reported. Violates both reportable offense, actually. Obviously not really a question, but a rant phrased in the form of a question, and seems to be encouraging violence and harassment. Falls under their criteria for both "Guidelines Violation" and "Illegal Post". I don't see it being up for much longer.

The negative responses show how ignorant some people still are, regardless of what side of the 'pond' they live on.

There are a few responses from the haters that have gotten so many thumbs down that their post is in the minimized "hidden" state due to too many negative ratings. It would be good to click on "show" for those and give them another thumbs down just for good measure.

Wow Buzzman, that dude smoking people out with his diesel was pretty messed up.
I will never understand why people are always hatin' on us.
It's been going on since the 1880s.

Yeah no kidding...
While just the other day while I was riding my bike out in Dacula, Georgia...I passed a couple horses in a pasture they were beside the fence and watched me as I rode by.
I could have sworn that one of them said to the other, "See there, that's one of those sunsa*****es that cost us our jobs....:D

+1000000(each '0' represents the exponential number of diehard motorists that hate cyclists)
I wonder if people on ATVs' and/or motorized dirt bikes and/or horses encounter this much hate?:notamused:
Lets' see......
Horses have been around for centuries, throughout most of the world.
The invention and evolution of the bicycle has been around since 1880.
The motorcycle has been around since the early 20th century.
The three and four-wheel ATVs' have been around since the second half of the 20th century.
Somehow, While horses have been around longer than motorcycles n' ATVs'(although not anywhere near as fast as a motorcycle or ATV) they don't get hassled by motorists, the way cyclists do.:notamused:
The bicycle has been around longer than the automobile. Yet, Motorists' stupidly think they are all-powerful. Because they can essentially kill a cyclist at will and get away with it.:notamused:

Of course, this latest one chose someone who agreed with him and didn't bother to learn a thing from all the postings from people who knew what they were talking about.
His response to the answer was "Yes, and they should pay road tax too!" after several people pointed out that his ideas about how the roads get paid for are delusions.
Not surprised.
