Rode downtown today to see the Soldiers and Sailors Monument-topping Miss Liberty at ground level for the fist time in my life. She's been high in the air on Monument Circle for 118 years and came down a few months ago for a refurbishing. Lots of Hoosiers, like me, gawking at her and taking pictures. On Tuesday, her 19,000 pound self will be lifted back to the top of the Monument.

So.... Good from afar but far from good? :)

Hey, I'd totally visit if I was in town. I'll be there in Oct., but she will be out of my reach by then. Indianapolis is a great city, and most people in Indiana have no comprehension of how little traffic is in their downtown area, relative to downtown areas in other major cities. Thanks for posting. I'll look her up (well, look up at her), next time I'm in town.

People say she faces south (when atop the monument) as a tweaking of the nose to our Southern brethren. Or so I've heard.

I'd think it would be quite the opposite.

But Buddha statues generally face south to avoid looking into demon energy emanating from the north.

Indeed.

The wife and myself are going to check out Miss Liberty while she's still at ground level. Will have to be tomorrow, I heard that they are hoisting her back up top on Tuesday.

Indy is my hometown, so I may be somewhat biased, but the downtown area is really nice. I want to check out the new "Cultural Trail" and see if I that is finished up and if it now connects to the Monon Trail.

She probably faces south because she yearns to be there. ;)

She's heard you can get some great onion rings at The Varsity.

Or to pay homage to the Cummins Diesel plant on down the road? :innocent:
