Hey guys, I'm new to this forum (literally minutes) because I have a question regarding a friend's bike that they are trying to get rid of. It is a Schwinn with a serial number that reads SL928521 on the rear dropouts. Some chrome on the fork, but nowhere else. Most of the bike is covered with stickers, covering the model name.

After googling to the ends of the earth, I have found that serial #s on dropouts mark through 1970, and one page that I can no longer find stated that SL stood for a lighter style frame (fillet brazed maybe?).

Problem is, I can't find this number on any of the sites, SL brings up nothing for me searchwise, and the Schwinn decal on the frame looks more like an 80's lettering style, not 60's. What started out as a seemingly easy question to answer has left me scratching my head. So, what kind of Schwinn is this?

Hello AdamAnt welcome to the forums. the schwinn guys will be along soon but some more information would be real helpful. does the frame have lugs? or are the joints reallt smoother out filet brazing? do any of the parts have a name besides schwinn?

most importantly can you post a few pics?

The frame was lugged, and also the dropouts appeared to be from the same piece as the seat stays, and not noticeably welded. The tubing used also seems smaller in diameter than usual for steel. Shimano shifters on the downtube, 10 speed, not sure if indexed or not. I will try to post pictures tomorrow.

You really need to post some pics. You really haven't given us enough to go on here. Dowtube shifters and lugs and chrome forks don't really tell us much. That could be a Letour, Super Sport, Traveler, etc., etc.. We'd love to help but need more meat on the bones.
