Bicycle Mechanics - Threadless Headset Assembly Issues.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Hey Guys and Girls,
I've joined today to ask for some help in assembling a threadless aheadset. I've already pressed in the upper and lower head tube races. I have some parts I know how to assemble but some I don't.

This picture shows all the parts I have left over. I do not know what to do with parts 3, 4, 5 and 6. I also don't understand what number 7 is and what way the compression ring goes.
If someone could send me some instructions on how to assemble it that would be just the best ever.
THANKS,
Jesse Lattarulo.

I'm pretty much guessing here, as I don't have experience with roller bearing headsets.
I would think that 1 fits between 3 and 5 (in the orientation in the picture, 3 then 1 on top then 5 on top of that). Similarly 2 fits between 4 and 6. Presumably, each roller bearing (1 and 2) is generously greased before going into their stacks.
I would think that the wide end of each bearing stack (5) would go closest to the headtube, fitting in the pressed in part, but I don't know what the pressed-in part looks like. The compression ring would then nest on top of part 4, with tapered side down.
Presumably, there's also a fork crown race that you've already installed, and a star fangled nut, bolt and top cap (or equivalent) to apply preload. Not sure about 7, it's hard to see clearly in your photo.

I'd probably try the order they show in this picture. (reverse for top, of course.) Looks like that big ring is a seal, perhaps.
Looks like crown race is upside down in pic? 8 should go on top inside either 3 or 4. 3 or 4 might be differently machined to accept 8 or they both might.
Put it together without cranking down on the top cap bolt and you can get a feel for if the fork is going to spin smoothly.

In order, from the bottom,
Crown race (flipped from what's shown in Miche pic)
7 (hopefully 7 is a plastic or rubbery piece) If it's metal, I'd wait for a second opinion.
3 (or 4)
1
5
{ headtube **
6
2
3 (or possibly 4)
8
Try this setup without tightening first to get a feel for whether it's right or not.

Thanks heaps guys. It seems this is enough information to go with! I think number 7 is the only thing i'm a bit confused about but I think it's for different forks than mine.
Thanks Again.

Actually I worked out the use of part number 7. You were right LesterOfPuppets.
