Last month my 17 yr old son decided he wanted to sell his high-end mountain bike and switch to a road bike for cruising around his college campus (Colorado State University). We picked up a craigslist '86 Schwinn Traveler and immediately retro-modded it. It came out so cool and fun to ride that we started looking for a bike for me. Immediately an '88 Paramount pops up on craigslist for under $200. I snatch it up and we are now half-way through the resto-mod on this bike. My wife and daughter are left out- but wait! A '75? KOBE Cobra appears on craigslist, 50cm frame. It's dirty, I talk the guy down to $75. We wash it up and sure as heck, it looks like it spent the past 35 years in dry storage! It is immaculate, and the original tires still hold air. I may not ride much (yet) but this sure is a fun hobby so far! I never had a nice bike when I was growing up and now we have 3 steel frames AND an '85 Specialized Stumpjumper.

I know of one guy that had 5,000 bikes.
Keep it going.
