Fifty Plus (50+) - Just got back from Estes Park Colorado

It wasn't a rideing weekend, but while I was up there visiting my 94 year old mother, I enjoyed watching other people rideing their bikes in beautiful Estes Park.

Nice photos. Thanks for sharing. I love Estes Park. I used to work at the riding stables (if they are still there) on the right side of the road, just as you come in from Loveland, back in the mid 60's when I was stationed in Cheyenne. I did it as a summer job before leaving for Viet Nam. I was actually wanting to go back there to live in that area after getting out of the military but then, as fate would have it, I met my wife and stayed here in Tampa. We have only been back there while on vacation visiting her brother in Casper, WY.

Sure is some pretty country, isn't it.

Forgive me, but I've been wanting to say this for weeks. There is no "e" in "riding" (nor in "Shining").

Lived in Greeley in the 50's and went to estes for trolling/fishing andwater skiing at the lake most every weekend,,lots of times went over the pass to Grand lake for the same, as well..water in lake Estes was seriously cold...(still remember that...Brrr.),spent several days in the 70's handling health and welfare traffic out of estes ,when they had thehuge flood on the Big Thompson River down stream from Estes...(on ham radio)

We spent a year working In Boulder, and went up to Estes many times. Yes it is a real nice area. The summer of 76 a huge rain storm backed up on the front range and there was a huge flood in big Thompson canyon. In the narrow areas of the creek water ran 20 to 30 foot deep. Several pople were killed.

How's the biking on 34 from Loveland to Estes Park? Can't remember what the shoulders are like, but there's always a shetload of traffic.

Taste of Colorado is alright. Food is okay.

I dont remember for sure either , but doubt its to good,,,and the food must have changed, I went a coupleof times in the past and it was unedible garbage

Estes Park is a great place. The only thing it lacks is oxygen, a detriment when cycling. I really can't imagine cycling there.

We visited Estes Park last year for the first time, after our second trip to Glenwood Springs. It rained the day we arrived at Rocky Mountain National Park but we drove to the top and toured the museum up there. On the way down we passed a cyclist climbing on a loaded recumbent! He was near the top but below the treeline. I caught him with the camera just in time...

On a short hike a day or two after arriving, one of my children laid down on the trail and curled up and wouldn't move, because her head hurt and she was SO tired. Living at 30 feet above sea level, and hiking (or cycling) at 9000 or so is not pleasant.

That's weird there's a lack of oxygen in Estes Park. Must be a local phenomenon. I biked Mount Evans a couple of weeks ago and there was plenty of oxygen there!

Some of Denver's finest restaurants -- like the Broker -- were serving food at Taste Of. Yummy, yummy!
