Touring - Question about bar-end shifters used as thumbies

I considered to post this in the B. Mechanics forum but I know that some of the regulars here (hoogie...) are already using 9sp bar-ends in the role of thumbies. Does the right lever point out forward when the largest cog is selected? Thanks.

I assume yes by looking at photos of thumbies mounted on bar tops. You'll be in the largest cog when the lever is pointed away from you. The lever pointing at you, the rider, and you will be in the smallest cog. I use Shimano barend shifters and am considering mounting them on top as well.
But if you desire reverse action, switch your derailleur with the newer "low normal" action, like the new XT-760 derailleur, for example.

Perhaps a pic will help a bit here. The thumbie shown is a SunTour used in friction mode to move through the nine cogs. In the pic, the lever is in the position of the 32th cog (sorry, I've never been good at discerning between top and bottom gears). The Dura-Ace bar-ends right lever is at an exact right angle with the bars. Is this the way it should be?

Thanks Fixer. Mine are the not the Paul's mount, but home made from bits and pieces in the parts box. When these bar ends were on drop bars they turned 180º to move from one "side" of the cassette to the other. But on top of the flat bars, I find this a bit strange.
