I'm now doing my second and, having re-read the Sheldon article, another question arises. I had the bearings lightly preloaded, and backed the cup off a little bit because there didn't appear to be enough threads to adequately engage the lockring.
Comments and suggestions appreciated. I packed the bearings loose, 11 to a side. It's a 78 Giant built Schwinn.
