I've been living in the Pacific Northwest 2 years now, still exploring areas, I've been looking at Port Townsend as a place to explore, seems like a built for tourist spot.
I've never been there, I was thinking of taking the car with 2 bicycles strapped on back and then park the car at a central location/hotel spend the night and then explore on bike. I was thinking a downtown hotel, from what I've seen online, seems older hotels are available downtown.
Is this a good town for doing this, alternate plan would be to ride the motorcycles up there and explore that way?

Hi, Phil- moving out already?
I've explored Port Townsend a couple times, but never by bike. Usually I'm on my way to Victoria, BC, so Port Townsend is just a waypoint.
They do seem to have plenty of maps:

If you go up in a couple weeks, you can take in the Kinetic Sculpture Race:

Heh Jeff;
Nope not moving, I'm staying in Vancouver, I like it here. I'm just getting use to life in the pacific northwest, I like the links you had listed, making the bicycles sound like a good way to explore... is it hilly in Port Townsend?
I'm not even in Washington at the moment, I'm working, just got to another hotel in Florence, Kentucky,, this ain't like the Pacific Northwest.
Port Townsend is a great place to stay as well a ride. Some hills but it depends on what you are used to. Be sure the walk on the ferry with your bikes and ride on Whidbey Island as well. Very scenic!

Hilly, but lots to see. Check out Fort Worden while there.

bummer, got home last month, was sick, so no Port Townsend ride,..... I will have to wait until next spring to head up north...
bummer, but it will still be there....
but it will still be there....
not according to the Mayans
but seriously PT is well -worth a trip by bike. Its hilly only in the sense that to get to sea level you must go downhill, so the city itself is pretty flat, but the surrounding burbs and the newer expansions are all uphill. Check out the brewery, elevated ice cream, and the bookstore on main street while you are there. Gorgeous little town and even though its changed a lot in the last ten years, it still maintains its unique culture pretty well. And Ft. Warden is probably one of the coolest parks I've ever been to
