Bicycle Mechanics - replacement Sturmey-Archer drum brake shoes / pads?

I'm considering converting a bike to Sturmey-Archer drum brakes. As I've looked through offerings at Harris Cyclery and QBP (via AEBike), I don't seem to be finding replacement brake shoes listed anywhere.

I figure they must be there...but can someone humor me with a link? If I go with such hubs, I'll want to be sure to keep spare shoes / pads on hand, as is my practice with my other bikes. Surely they must be readily available?

I've only seen the 70mm pads, all of the 70mm pads fit all the 70mm hubs, steel or aluminum:

As far as I know, there are no aftermarket shoes for these hubs. The only option is original replacement parts. I suggest emailing sellers of these hubs and asking about the price and availability of replacement shoes. If you put lots of miles on you might consider keeping a pair of replacement shoes on hand, as insurance about a design change or non-availability later on.

I can't speak for Sturmey-Archer, but the pads on my Maillard drum brakes are still plenty thick after 25 years.

..see if your LBS might have wholesalers , there is a US service center for sturmey/archer-sunrace . in Cal.

I do tend to ride a lot of miles, ride in any weather, and keep bikes a long time, so I am tuned in to having to replace parts that some folks may never replace.

Good to know that these last so long! That explains why these "wear items" (the shoes) are not readily available, I suppose.

I built a quirky winter MTB from ebay parts recently. I used Sturmey drum hubs (3 speed rear). While shopping around I found that the UK Tandem club had links to an independent drum brake rebuilder - I think this may be because old Tandems often have drums from obscure and defunct manufacturers.

Since you didn't give the part of the world you're in or the specific hubs you're interested in, I can only provide general help. The exploded part number diagrams for Sturmey brake hubs show part numbers for the brake plate assembly complete with new shoes. A quick check showed these part numbers in stock @ biketoolsetc.com for common hubs.
