Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So I was walking my dog, considering my shabby state of affairs as I"ve been laid off, and I notice a brown bike frame with drop bars sticking out of the trash can by the long empty rental house on the block. I pull it up and note 'Bianchi' on the frame. Sling it over the shoulder and take it home.

Here's what I found:
63CM frame. This is way too big for me, so if I can sell it locally on C-List that money will help keep food on the table and my wife relaxed (one less bike in the garage)

Bike has no wheels
Crank: SR
Brakes: Diacompe G with drilled levers
Derailleurs: Suntour Cyclone
Drop outs... they say ST or GT on them (Suntour??) they have an adjust screw.
Serial #: 68791S0 (the underside of the BB is a tad rust scaley, but this seems correct). >

There is some rust near the BB (noted in pics) and near a couple lugs. Give me your opinion (by sight) on the seriousness of this.
There is a small sticker near the top of the Seat tube that says "Piaggio" and one on the other side that is missing but similar shape/size. There are some striped decals along one side of the seat tube that are mostly off that appear to the same color as the Bianchi decal. Overall color seems to be bronze with sparkle in the paint.

Any Help on Model Name and date of manufacture would be much obliged. Feel free to offer a value (I realize that is the realm of a nother forum) or if you think individual parts may be worth more OFF the frame.

Oh yeah, it has these Shimano PD R-535 clipless pedals on it too. Are they worth anything these days?

As everyone likes pictures, here are some pictures:

paint actually looks pretty good. YOu probably won't get much for those pedals, but at least it's something.

I would put it somewhere around 1981-83. Nice find, just my size

Looks like a nice score to me too. Some nice bits and a decent frame - that has to be a $100 haul parted out. Good luck with it.

So it'd be better to sell the frame (and maybe the crank/headset) separate from the other bits?

Great find. I keep hearing of people finding bikes like this in the trash and being given away, I wish people in my area road bikes like this instead of walmart roadmasters so that I could be so lucky to find one in the trash

NO idea what bianchi is but i would strip it, repaint it in bianchi celeste and sell it at ebay, as for the parts no idea, maybe the pedals worth something, new cleats fit in those pedals or not?

It's a Japanese-made Bianchi, the FD is a Shimano Sante (might be worth more than if it were a Cyclone) and it's probably something like Ishiwata or Tange in at least the 3 main tubes, might be plain gauge. Around '82 seems in the ballpark (Bianchigirl could narrow this down).
I'd part it all out and sell the frame locally (give it the oxalic acid dip first and wax it), the other bits (cleaned and shined) on eBay...since you have time to spend that's the best way to make it pay, but also eats the most time.

that's a sweet score! those cyclones don't look much different then Vx's though or V-gt's.. is there a huge difference?

In my experience, performance-wise, no; they all work great. The cyclones look cooler though imo and are lighter.

that kinda scares me actually.. given the weight ratio between v's and honour's...

According to Velobase the Vx-gt is 210 grams and the 1st gen. Cyclone is 178. I wouldn't worry though - it's a well-designed unit.

I believe the model is a "Limited". Early 80's Japanese as said before.

I'll take that Cyclone RD off your hands. I need one to pair up with an extra front I have.

Looks like an SR Royal forged stem too...am I right?

EDIT: That's not a Cyclone FD.
EDIT2: Unworthy beat me to it...
