General Cycling Discussion - I need a new floor pump

My old pump sucks, and has begun leaking, and it's time to buy a new one. I have presta valves, the rest of the family has schraeder, so I need something that handles both reasonably well. I want a gauge. I'd like not to spend a fortune on it, if possible. What should I buy?

I've had very good luck with Serfas FP200 ($30) and Joe Blow Sport (~$30). Serfas won't charge you for warranty parts unlike Topeak

My 25+ year old Silca Track Pump still works OK.

Now their Bell shaped Presta Air fitting unscrews from a Schrader stem fitting.

I have the serfas FP 200 at work, several of us use it. No problems. At home I have a cheap Blackburn something, it was cheap and I have used it for about 5 years now. Both fit both pista and shcrader valves and have pressure gauges.

Before you walk out of the shop and before parting with your money- Take the pump over to a bike- road bike if using presta- and see if it will pump the tyre up to the pressure you want. And make certain it will pump to that pressure with ease.

I have a couple that I use on the MTB's only as I will strain something if I ever try to get 80psi out of them. My current pump that is well above your price range- will get to 200psi and I can still walk about afterwards.

For years I had a Silca that I loved, but then had to get something that would handle both types of valves, and I didn't care for Silca's new chuck design. I hesitated getting anything else, though, because I'd had some bad pumps in the past, but finally, out of desperation, I went into the closest shop, which just happened to be a Trek dealer. Because of that, about all they sold were Bontragers. By default I got their TurboCharger and I've been very pleased with it. It seems sturdy enough, it gets tires to pressure quickly and efficiently, and the gauge is located at the top of the barrel so it's easier to see. And the dual head works great with both kinds of valves.

It is a little spendy, but I have a Lezyne clasic floor pump that I like a lot. http://www.lezyne.com/products/floor-pumps/classic-floor-drive Which I am a big fan of. It has a nice screw on end that you just unscrew and turn around to change from presta to shrader. It also screws onto the valve stem, so it is firmly attached and you dont have to fiddle to get a good connection.

In the "budget" range, does anyone have any input on the Nashbar L'Orange pump? It was recommended to me by a friend.

I am car light (read: husband gets the car to drive to work every day) and I'm 35 miles away from my favorite LBS. I'll need to order online because I wouldn't be able to get to the LBS for a couple of weeks to look at pumps. And my tires need air way before that.

We're fans of the topeak joe blow pro. Has a "smart head" (works for both) and according to my wife it takes a lot less effort to use than many other pumps.

I prefer both Topeak and Blackburn. My friend has the Blackburn Tower 3 and it pumps his tires up to 108psi with ease.

I have a Blackburn Airtower 4 (had it for 4 years maybe?). Last year the valve got to be a pain to get off the Presta Valve. Emailed Blackburn, they sent me a newer model valve! Perfect! Now this year I find out the gauge is not correct, emailed them again, and they are sending me a new pump! Great customer service. Their pumps have a lifetime warranty.

My friends strap the holds the handle down broke (because of me not knowing it was there) and they sent him a new free strap no questions asked. There customer service is why I plan on getting the airtower 2 when I get a new pump an use blackburn for all my pumps that I carry with me on my bike.

$19.95 Zefal at Walmart can do presta or shrader and can switch between instantly.

I use an old Park Tool one, no clue how old. Use the thread on adapter for Presta valves. Current fleet of bikes is probably 90% schrader valves.
