Well if I don't who will??? Competed in the MA Senior Games last Sunday. First time entrant in the 60-64 y.o. group. Did the 20K & 40K event. Was pretty nervous & headed out way too fast (adrenaline I guess) but finally settled down and was able to find my rythym even though heart rate was 10 bpm higher than usual. Long story short....I was awarded the Silver Medal in both events!! Still flying high considering I never dreamed of doing anything like this just a couple of years ago.

Moral (if any).....NEVER EVER quit trying!!:thumb:

Give us the whole story.

Time was 1:16:00 for 40K; not sure for 20K as they were only placing riders, but I did average 19.2 for the 1st 20K. About 25-30 riders, 6 or 7 in my age group. Gold medal winner lost me at 25K. He was the youngster at 60...I'm 62. Not sure of his time but must've averaged around 21 mph!!!!

Did you get kissed on the cheeks by podium girls?

Superb job, and a tremendous accomplishment. The ability to toot your own horn when deserved is one of the reasons we do this silly sport.

A 19.6 mph average = pretty darned good! Congrats!

Wow...I was feeling pretty good about my 1:21:18 in the 40K I did last month. Way to go!

(Notice how I snuck in a little tooting of my own there?) ;)

Now back to reality. Checked out the results for National Senior Games this year: my time would have had me in 30th place!!! No medals for that. Boy are those "old timers" FAST!! Wonder if they have testing, LOL!

Congratulations. I finally figured out how to pace myself and keep from going out too fast when I was 51. Wish someone would have told me that back when I was 16, my bike racing career might have turned out very differently.

And the masters categories of bike racing are some of the fastest categories. It's bad enough to keep me from thinking too hard about racing again (that, and the travel from here). Back when I was racing, I didn't have to worry about racing against ex-World Champs. If you are in a masters category, racing against ex-world and ex-national champions is a real possibility.

You deserve to be proud and toot! I would too! Now I've got a target. Or perhaps I should say you have a target... on your back!

That is quite awesome! Way to go! Yeah, it didn't happen unless there are podium girls.
Not to try to steal your thread. I competed in the Tn Senior Olympics in the softball throw. Set a new Tn State record for our age group: 254 feet :) . I pitched in college and still have most of the arm still intact. Actually it feels about the same, because I threw kinda slow(83-85 mph) in college. 85 is the minimum a pro team will consider.
I think I'm gonna do the bike race next year. It's only 11 miles. A mere sprint :) . Thinking I can hold maybe 17-20 mph but there are some hills.
