Mountain Biking - Not normal chainslap!

My chain slap doesn't occur too much at the middle of the chainstay, but rather very clsoe to my front gears, about 2 inches away from the bb. The chain slap happens mostly on the bottom, but sometimes on the top of the chainstay. What's the problem? Chainstay protectors don't reach this far!

Chain is stretched out, solution take about 2/3 links out.

You know I know just what you are talking about... These others know nothing. It really is not that normal kind of slap.




Mine was a bunch of small magic dwarfs that all they try to do it kill the look of my frame. Well if they feel that they arn't going to be good on the main tubes, they migrate to the chainstay!! EVIL little things. When you get a bump they jump up and grab your chain and throw it toward the chainstay!.... Only why I know how to kill the little things is by magic... I can share anymore... So yeah your right it isnt the normal chainslap.

ok you either fix chainslap by removing links, ignoring it (I know exactly what he is talking about actually) or getting some sort of chain tension system.

Or mayb the tension spring on your deraileur is not tight anymore.

Hmm, removing 2/3 links? Last time they did that, I accidently went 2/1 and the chain was solid. When they took the pin out of the chain, the link exploded off nobody knew where it went. Is it safe to take off the link again?

Maybe just make some kind of protector that you can put there. Just use a bit of old tube and some zip ties and go wild!

Well, it is a bit close to where the frame indents for the tire. Actually, it IS where the frame indents for the tire.

Shift onto the big ring when you go down hill this will eliminate your problem.

Stay off the granny unless you are using it to climb with.
