Bicycle Mechanics - White LigBicycle Degreaser question

Does anyone know if White Lightning quick degreaser is safe to use around rear hubs and crankset bearings? The instructions say to spray components liberally around and near those areas. Or will it wash grease out of the bearings? Thanks.

It depends both on how well the bearings are sealed and how vigorously you squirt the degreaser at the bearings. If it's a newer bike, the bearings likely have good enough sealing that fluid won't simply wick into the sealed areas. If you shoot the degreaser out of a pressure washer, even the best bearing seals will likely allow some fluid to pass. If you want to be on the safe side, use a brush or rag to get the degreaser in those critical areas and wipe clean with a wet rag.

Try Dawn dishwashing soap instead. Does a great job of cleaning the bike.

I use Simple Green, but I do not use Pressured spray. I scrub the cassette and such with a brush, then a light rinse off. LBS said they do it the same way. One thing I DO NOT do is wash it then put it away. I wash it before I ride it, so it dries off, not leaving water standing. Same thing I do with my motorcycles.
