I rode in the Bike MS in New Bern, NC this past weekend. What a great event! Over 2400 cyclists. I just started riding seriously in March. Longest training ride was 50 miles, but in hilly terrain, and the century was flat. My GPS said 98.96, but that's close enough for me. The last 10 miles were tough. My knees were hurting in the front. I raised the saddle 3/16" and did 50 more on Sunday. :twitchy:

If you are into charity rides, this one is superbly done.

Always pleased to see riders getting milage up and enjoying it. To get to that Century is a great achievement so what's for next Year?

Well done.

I haven't thought about the next goal. I guess it would be to do a local century, meaning with hills. I want to do some spin classes over the winter and weight training to build leg and core strength. The more experienced cyclists I ride with usually drop me on hills. I also want to improve my bike fit and get rid of my neck pain, somehow.

Congratulations P51! I'm still training for my first century. I've completed a metric century;the standard century is near on the horizon.

I describe myself as an "occasional centurian"; not saying it's a correct spelling, but I think it make more sense in a cycling context. :innocent:

Congratulations also to p51, and I'm surprised you then did 50 miles the next day. I usually rest on my laurels. A relative lives in Apex, and I'm always amused that it's not on the "Research Triangle" of North Carolina.

You should come up and do a century or even a metric in the mountains! That could be a goal for next year. Heck, you just rode 150 miles you can do it now!

It was a two day event. Didn't want to sit around while everyone else rode...

Congratulations!!

You did good. My longest so far is 72 miles and it wasn't pain free. I wonder if most people suffer, at least a little going that distance. At least you managed the pain and worked through it.

Mountains are physically challenging but also mentally daunting. Once your mind gets on board they get a whole lot easier. Experience riding the big hills will get you over the hump!
