Alright, so I found a Specialized Crossroads bike for sale for $100. Problem is, I don't think it is a particularly recent model. Anyone recognize what year about it looks like? The seller says it's in good condition. At that price I'm I getting a good deal?

For $100 it is a decent bike. Most bikes like that are overpriced on Craigslist. It does appear to be about 15 years old but looks well maintained.

Just my opinion, but if the bike meets your needs and everything is in good shape then $100 is a fair price. It would make a fine commuting or around town bike I'm sure.
On the other hand it is a bit dated. If it needs any kind of parts I'd be careful. Is that chain a little brown with rust or worn, that could be $. If the chain is bad the the cassette may be bad, $$. Maybe not so much in LA, but here in the NE rim brake can eat rims if ridden a lot in less than ideal conditions. That could be $$$$. And so on....
So again, in my opinion it could be a fair price if it is what you need and it doesn't need much. However it is old, but not old enough or unique enough to to warrant spending much more than that.

Hey Dragonwalker!
It's a steel-framed bike!
If the frame is in absolutely good condition, and you fit it, buy it, and run!
You can easily upgrade the components, later.
Eventually, the bike will more than pay for itself, if there are any added costs.
Consider it an investment into a very long future of cycling...
Don't sweat the tidbits!
Good Luck!

If the frame is a good fit for you, it is a very good deal, IMO, and would be a great starting point.
MAKE SURE IT FITS - if it does not fit your body, the bike is worthless at any price.

Thanks for the advice. Everything would be fine and dandy only he turned out to be 50 miles away so I will pass unless he has it until Friday when he will be in my area. The search continues...
