I have a 2007 electra townie that I have recently started riding on trails quite a bit. The only real problem I have is that when I take my hands off the handlebars the front end of my bike starts wobbling like crazy! Is this just part of the design of the bike or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks!

Try scooting back on the saddle. More of your thighs will be touching the saddle giving you better control. That's what I had to do.

Your hands on the handlebars, serve as guides for the wheels. If your wheels are moving in differerent or erratic directions when your hands have been removed, that means that something else is directing your wheels.

Perhaps you're riding on road that's not smooth, your fork is loose, or you need new bearings.

- Slim :)

Thanks. How does one check for a loose fork? When I took my hands off for a moment on my ride on Sunday, on relatively smooth trail (paved) I almost crashed! Thanks for the info.

You can check for a loose fork or headset by applying the front brake and rocking the bike back and forth. Place your finger(s) on the front of the headtube where the fork enters the frame. You should feel no movement (apart from left\right when you move the handlebar).
